Overview

Comments by library staff
We purchased this product approximately ten years ago, prior to which we had limited ability to create online pages for the library on SharePoint (which is clunky and not suited to our needs).  With LibGuides, we are able to track usage and make changes on the fly.

How it is utilized by the INTEGRIS Medical Library
LibGuides is the platform that we use to create and edit our library webpage and specialty web pages for subject areas (Fall Prevention) and departments (Pharmacy Resources, Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy Clinics).
The use of LibGuides as a library website allows us to guide users to specifically targeted e-journals, e-books, guidelines, and other resources in one place.

Suggestions

  • Can this product be purchased in components?
    • We are already purchasing the most basic component offered by this vender.
  • Are there alternatives to this product?
    • We used to have pages internally on SharePoint, but it is extremely difficult to edit and navigate when attempting to use as a library website.  There are other products on the market, but they are, in general, more expensive and less nimble.  Free webpages do not allow for enough information to be posted and have formats not friendly to libraries.  OpenSource HTML and CSS products are difficult to use and edit and require a server the editor can access.   LibGuides is considered the standard by the library community for library webpages.
    • Oklahoma Department of Libraries will host a WordPress site for non-profits at no cost
    • WordPress (common for small library websites) $300/year
