How UpToDate is utilized by INTEGRIS Medical Library
The library promotes UpToDate to clinical staff as a point-of-care tool which they can use on their personal device.  We troubleshoot issues with obtaining and maintaining access on personal devices.  The reference section in UpToDate topic pages is also connected to library resources through our EBSCO Full Text Finder system, providing one-click access to many articles (and to an ILL form for items that are unavailable in our library resources).

Alternatives to Current Access

Suggestions

  • Cost Sharing
    • Share the cost of UpToDate across several departments
  • Other Purchase Options
    • We are, at the moment, subscribed to a more robust version of UpToDate.
      • Some of the features can be scaled back.
      • A version without remote access is available
    • Physicians are able to purchase individual subscriptions.
      • The library used to place orders for subscriptions to UpToDate which were paid through a physician's CME fund (this was before we had an institutional subscription).  Cost 8-10 years ago equaled $500 per physician.
  • Alternative Products
    • DynaMed Plus is a point-of-care tool from EBSCO we have looked into before.
    • Trialed in the past and did not receive a favorable response from physicians and other clinical staff
